Everest Q3 FY2026: earnings miss as casualty reserves deepen

Everest's third quarter is a miss wrapped in a flat headline: GAAP EPS of $6.12 landed 31.5% below the $8.93 consensus and net income slipped to $233 million, with $268 million of prior-year reserve strengthening doing most of the damage. Revenue fell 14.0% to $3.71 billion and the Core combined ratio was 105.8%. Read the scorecard for what the reserve charge hides, and the balance sheet for what $474 million of buybacks did to book value.

GAAP EPS of $6.12 was 31.5% below the $8.93 consensus and only 0.5% above last year's $6.09, on net income of $233 million. Net operating EPS of $7.62 — which adds back $18 million of after-tax restructuring costs, $51 million of investment gains and subtracts $12 million of foreign exchange gains — still missed by 14.7%, so the shortfall is not just accounting noise. Diluted shares fell to 37.6 million from 41.4 million, which lifted per-share results but could not cover the reserve charge.

Total revenues fell 14.0% to $3.71 billion from $4.32 billion a year ago, as net premiums earned dropped 18.1% to $3.16 billion. The decline runs through every segment: Reinsurance Treaty earned premium fell 13.0% to $2.24 billion, Global Wholesale & Specialty 4.3% to $705 million, and Legacy 61.4% to $208 million. Investment income partly cushioned the top line, rising to $634 million from $540 million, but a $68 million investment loss offset some of that.
